Dessert of the Day: Apple Pie

For Thanksgiving weekend I volunteered to make Apple Pie for my parents dinner.  I don't exactly know why but I love to experiment with different recipes and tend to do them for guests on my first attempt.  From my past experience I should have known this to be a bad idea but I have this weird urge to make recipes my momma can eat (she can't have gluten or corn).
So anyway I chose this recipe (the first one) to make the dough.  And this recipe for the pie filling (subing in apples instead of peaches of course).
So after working with the dough a bit I became terrified that it wasn't going to turn out and switched over to this dough recipe instead for the gluten tolerant people of the bunch.
The pie was NOTHING like the ones you'd buy in the supermarket.  Which is probably a good thing because I did use ingredients such as raw sugar and whole wheat flour. . .The filling was crunchy, and there wasn't any liquidy sauce to it.  I did get compliments on it though so I suppose different is good in some cases. It's all about the experiment and I'm confidant that by the time I decide to host a family holiday feast my recipes will be perfected. Ha. . .one can hope. . .
Even though I changed dough recipes on the large pie, I still had the gluten-free dough and made my momma two mini pies all for herself.  She said they were good, just a lot of dough. . .oy. . .
