Weekend Wrap-Up & Dessert of the Day

A few nights ago I made this Vegetarian Paella (recipe from November's Alive magazine) and it was delicious!  I didn't have any saffron so I left it out...although I am curious to know how much of a difference it makes to the dish.   Does it add a lot of flavor??
These delicious morsels were made for Kristina's birthday.  I am so pleased they turned out and that there were a few left over for Beard-O and I to sample.
For her party a bunch of us went out for dinner and then switched over to the bar side for some drinks and dancing.  Thanks to a slippery and slanted table, my entire drink ended up in my lap (and no I wasn't drinking alcohol).  Luckily I live close by so after a quick costume change I was back and ready to boogie the night away.
This afternoon was especially exciting.  Beard-O is determined to complete a project so today he asked if I would help him with some wood which he'll be using for the top and shelf of his work bench.  So because we don't have a truck or a vehicle large enough...his great plan was for us to carry a sheet of 4'x8' cut vertically 1km home.  And I did it.  I'm sure we looked hilarious walking down the highway.  One couple with a pickup actually pulled over to assist us but by that point we were seconds from being home.  Moments later we made it, sore arms and all...
